Brunei Darussalam Esports Team Returns At The 32nd SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Back for the 2nd time, Brunei Darussalam sent a team of 5 athletes, led by 1 coach and supported by 1 team manager, to partake in the 32nd SEA Games 2023 held in Cambodia. This marked the country’s second participation in the biennial game, with their debut being at the 31st SEA Games 2021, where they showcased their potential in the esports event in Hanoi, Vietnam.

This year’s lineup saw a complete overhaul as none of the athletes who represented Brunei Darussalam in the 31st SEA Games managed to secure a spot in the 2023 SEA Games event. The new lineup, under the guidance of a fresh face at the helm, Churchill Ensir, showcased the country’s dedication to continuous improvement and growth in the competitive arena. Churchill Ensir, a seasoned professional PUBG Mobile coach hailing from Malaysia’s esteemed CRIT VIP, took up the reins of coaching the team. His expertise and strategic insights were expected to play a pivotal role in preparing the Bruneian athletes for the competition.

With a revamped team and a determined coach, Brunei Darussalam’s participation in the 32nd SEA Games marked not only a step towards regional sporting excellence, but also a testament to the nation’s commitment to pushing its boundaries in the world of competitive esports.

The lineup for the 32nd SEA Games 2023 consists of Md Safwan Hakimi bin Abdullah Husaini (Newbies), Md Hadif Fadhli Haji Sufari (Shaco), Md Danish Haqeeme Hizami bin Muhaimin (Chewie), Md Danial Hadhrami Safiuddin bin Muhaimin (Piasau), and Ak Muhd Haziq bin Hj Mohd Redzuan (Tofu). Four members of the main roster that triumphed in the 14th IESF World Esports Championship 2022 have been given the opportunity to create another historic moment in this competition.

Despite their best efforts, the team missed their goal of securing a Top 6 finish, ultimately achieving the 17th position. While this outcome led to their departure during the qualifying stage, the team has chosen to view this as a stepping stone rather than a setback. With the commitment to analyze the situation and identify areas of improvement, they are eagerly preparing to make an impactful comeback in their next endeavor – the 15th IESF World Esports Championship 2023 Asia Regional Qualifiers. This experience has only fueled their motivation to showcase their skills and dedication on an even greater stage.
