Bali, Indonesia
The Esports Association of Brunei (ESB) made waves at the 14th IESF World Esports Championship held in Bali, Indonesia from December 1st to 12th 2022. The association sent a formidable team composed of PUBG Mobile, Tekken 7 and eFootball players to compete on the global stage.
In a thrilling turn of events, the PUBG Mobile team etched their mark by achieving an extraordinary 2nd Place finish, standing only behind Kazakhstan in an intense final map showdown. Holding a strong lead in points until the final map, Brunei’s team faced an early elimination, granting Kazakhstan the opening they needed to secure victory by a mere 7-point margin.
While missing out on the gold, Brunei’s achievement marks a historic milestone, securing the country’s highest placement at a World Championship level. Remarkably, this feat was achieved in their debut appearance at this competitive level. This accomplishment not only brought home a well-earned silver medal, but also USD30,000 in prize money, amplifying Brunei’s presence on the global esports scene.
PUBG MOBILE Team Members:
- Muhd Safwan Hakimi bin Abdullah Husaini (Newbies)
- Md Hadif Fadhli Haji Sufari (Shaco)
- Md Danish Haqeeme Hizami bin Muhaimin (Chewie)
- Md Danial Hadhrami Safiuddin bin Muhaimin (Piasau)
Our Tekken 7 contender, Md Hafiy Mirza, also known as Hafey, demonstrated his debut by securing a position within the Top 16 playoff rounds. His promising run, however, faced a hurdle against a seasoned Japanese opponent, leading to his eventual elimination. Despite the challenges, Hafey’s debut performance showcased his potential and set the foundation for future growth.
Meanwhile, Muhd Abdul Qawiy, recognized as MrTanakaV2, represented our national association in the fiercely competitive eFootball 2023 category. Despite his efforts, he navigated through the group stages, securing a notable victory against Somalia. However, the challenge proved rigorous against opponents from Spain, Thailand, Bosnia and Herzegovina, resulting in three losses that led to his exit from the competition.
In the aftermath of this journey, we would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the participating athletes and dedicated team officials. Their achievements and unwavering efforts truly illuminated the path to the 14th IESF World Esports Championship. As the curtains draw on this chapter, our eyes are fixed on the horizon of opportunity in Iasi, Romania in 2023, where we eagerly anticipate a triumphant return and a chance to shine even brighter in the stages that lie ahead.
Lastly, a big thank you to Progresif and YOUC1000 for their endless support in contributing to the development of our esports athletes. Our achievement would not be possible without the assistance given by both Progresif and YOUC1000.
